Carol Johnsen, obituary

EDGECOMB — Carol A. Johnsen, age 86, longtime resident of Edgecomb, wife of the late Arnold ‘Arne’ Johnsen, died on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Lincoln Health – Miles Campus, in Damariscotta.

Carol was born in Staten Island, New York to the late Charles and Anna Hustedt Thompson and attended local schools. After school, Carol became a typist as a court recorder. In the last 30 plus years, Carol lived at her home in Edgecomb.

Carol was a longtime member of the Edgecomb Community Church. She was most well known for her knitting. She loved making baby blankets and matching hats. As of her count in 2009 she had donated over 1700 baby blankets to Mid-Coast Hospital in Brunswick. Not only did she donate to the hospital, but she also gave to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She saw an ad in the newspaper for volunteer knitters at the Naval Base in Brunswick. She answered their call and knitted many hats and blankets for Navy families. Her knitting has helped families throughout the world.

Carol is the mother to her four beloved children, grandmother to six grandchildren, and great-grandmother to five great-grandchildren.

There will be a time of visitation on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Hall Funeral Home & Tribute Center, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, Maine 04537, where a funeral will be held at 3 p.m.
