CamdenCAN to host community potluck — good food, climate action, and climate hope

Event has passed

     Interested in meeting more neighbors and learning about Camden’s climate action? Join CamdenCAN (ClimateActionNow) Thursday, Feb. 22,  at the First Congregational Church to socialize and hear about the grass-root citizen’s climate group that works to help Camden face the challenges of a warming world.

    The evening will include socializing from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., CamdenCAN will kick off information sharing and discussion. CamdenCAN’s steering committee members will be on hand to talk about their organization, climate action in town to date, and ways to engage in climate work going forward.

    CamdenCAN is a citizen-led organization committed to reducing Camden’s contribution to climate change through local action, education, advocacy, and resources. It helps the community take advantage of climate solutions with actionable steps.

    CamdenCAN formed in June 2023 by a group of citizens concerned that Camden’s leaders were not talking about—or responding to—the climate crisis and its impact on the town. Since inception, the organization, led by a steering committee, has:

    Published a biweekly eletter sharing the latest climate science and opportunities for local engagement;

    Created the Camden Talks Climate series. Find the videos at the CPL YouTube channel: “Camden, the Climate Crisis and You,” “Where Does Camden Stand On Climate Action?” and “Achieving Climate Resilience in Coastal Communities.” At the Town of Camden YouTube channel, find “Where Do Camden’s Neighbors Stand on Climate Action?” (Search “CamdenCAN” to find that video.);

    Hosted Climate Conversation Circles on the first and third Thursdays of the month, at the CPL. Talk about climate science, climate anxiety, climate action—anything that comes up—and get to know neighbors who are also climate-concerned.

    Take a dish to share, your own utensils and plate-ware if you like (there will be some on hand), and your enthusiasm. No need to preregister, but you can preregister by emailing mmulhern@myfairpoint.net

    Sign-up sheets for the CamdenCAN newsletter and action groups will be on hand. (Read the CamdenCAN newsletter here.) You don’t have to be a Camden resident to attend, or to learn and work toward a more sustainable Midcoast

    The First Congregation Church is located at 55 Elm Street, Camden.
