Camden area historical society celebrates Maine maple syrup, March 24

Event has passed

CAMDEN — “Maine’s annual spring harvest event celebrating Maine Maple Syrup is Sunday, March 24, and your local historical society is gearing up once again for a fun ‘sugaring off’ day,” said Camden Rockport Historical Society, in a news release.

View the boiling process in the original Walter Howe 1820s Sugar House, sample free ice cream maple sundaes, observe cooking over an open hearth in the 1700s Homestead and roast marshmallows over an open fire.

The backdrop for all these activities is the latest exhibit “Winter Wonderland”. Program Director Susan Reidy has arranged all manner of winter sports equipment from skis and sleds to warm winter clothing from Camden’s Brewster Woolen Mill, photos of the early days of the Camden Snow Bowl and the Toboggan chute, harvesting ice in Rockport, and a display of furs and muffs worn by women back in the day of truly cold winters. As an added feature this year, Ukes Rock will entertain in the museum from 1 - 2 p.m.

Camden Rockport Historical Society’s Maine Maple Sunday events will take place from 12 noon till 3 p.m. The event is free and open to all, although donations are accepted.

CRHS is located just off Rt 1 just past Hannaford shopping plaza.
