Belinda A. Chapman, obituary
SOUTH THOMASTON — Belinda A. Chapman, 72, of South Thomaston, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 29, 1952, in Rockland, Belinda was the youngest of three daughters to Lawrence and Eleanor Chapman. A lifelong Knox County resident, she grew up in Thomaston and graduated from Rockland High School in 1969. She furthered her education at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, earning a degree as a Radiology Technician. Belinda dedicated her career to patient care, working at Pen Bay Medical Center and at local orthopedic practices.
A devoted mother, Belinda’s life revolved around her family. She raised her three children with unwavering love and support, attending countless band, choir, sports, and gymnastics events. She volunteered in their schools, serving as a librarian and yearbook committee member. Belinda's home was filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. As her parents aged, she became their dedicated caregiver, and she showered her granddaughter with the same love and attention.
Belinda possessed a creative spirit. She was a skilled seamstress, knitter, and quilter, often gifting her handmade creations to family and friends. An example of talents hangs in the Ash Point Community School where her granddaughter attended. Her passion for writing led her to author whimsical children’s books for her grandchildren. A self-taught handywoman, she took pride in building a playhouse and tackling various home improvement projects.
Gardening was another of Belinda’s passions. Her home was adorned with beautiful plants, and she had a particular fondness for those with thorns. Animals held a special place in her heart, especially her beloved yellow lab, Baron, and her three cherished cats. Belinda found solace and joy at her family’s camp on Hosmer Pond. Spending time with her children and grandchildren there brought her immense happiness.
Her warmth, humor, and love for life touched everyone she met. She was a bright light in her community, and her spirit will be deeply missed.
Belinda was predeceased by her parents.
She is survived by her children, Jason Cook of Castle Rock, Colorado; Jeremy ‘Miah’ Cook and his wife Tanya Panichpakdee of Long Beach, California; and Stephanie Cook of Rockland, Maine; her cherished grandchildren, Boden, Benton, and Nadia; the father of her children, Steven Cook of Owls Head; as well as lifelong friends Sharon O’Brien, Kathleen Florence, Donna Cook, and her special neighbor, Deb Northgraves.
A funeral service and celebration of life will be held Friday, November 29, 2024, at 2 p.m., at People’s United Methodist Church, 13 Chapel St., South Thomaston.
