‘Beauty Everywhere’ paintings by Anne Cronin on display in January at Rockport library

ROCKPORT — From January 3 through 30, 2024, the Rockport Public Library will be exhibiting a show of original watercolor paintings by Anne Cronin.

Cronin’s art depicts graceful Maine landscapes, harbors and islands as well as detailed images of gardens and bouquets. Also included will be a rare showing of paintings inspired by visits to southern California where Cronin spent time painting desert palms and mountains with her aunts.

A public artist reception will be held Friday, January 12, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Rockport Public Library.

An inspiration to her friends and fellow artists, Cronin has continued to paint and draw many years after a stroke, further developing as an artist and finding inspiration in the natural world around her. She captures the beauty and character of nature in her paintings and drawings through an impression of the scene rather than exacting detail. As she describes, “I use the medium of watercolor… and use its natural flow to help build the completed work.”

Anne Cronin is a native of Maine living in Rockland. She received her degree in art and design at the Cambridge School of Design. Her watercolor paintings and ink drawings have been shown at Small Wonder Gallery in Camden, Bartlett Woods in Rockland, River Arts Gallery in Damariscotta, and in a solo show at Quarry Hill in Camden.

The show will include originals and prints for sale as well as miniature originals on easels.
