Barbara (Gushee) Borzoni, obituary
WALDOBORO — Barbara Marie (Gushee) Borzoni, 91, of Waldoboro, Maine, passed away peacefully at the Sussman House on Oct 29, 2024.
Born to Edward Merton and Alice Wadsworth on September 7, 1933 in Mt Vernon, Maine. When the family moved to Appleton, Barbara attended Appleton School.
She met and married her first love, Raymond Gushee, in 1950. Together they created a family of 6 children: Raymond, Frederick (and wife Pamela), Micheal, Daniel (and wife Diane), Tonia (and her husband Dennis Libby) and Todd; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a few great, great-grandchildren.
Barbara was well known in Appleton and the surrounding towns as she started adventures with her husband Raymond, raising chickens, working farms, and later on opening and running three different convenience stores. When they closed the last store, Gushee’s Store in Appleton Village, she started working as a professional painter until she retired. Barbara was known for having a “green thumb” and she enjoyed cooking, sewing and outside gardens of all types.
Later in life after her first husband's passing, she met her soon-to-be second husband, John Borzoni. They married in 1993, adding John’s five children to the family. Barbara had a special bond with Kenny (Buzzy) and Diane. They went on many adventures together, including cross-county motorcycle trips, went to Alaska and many short outings, built a home on the river in Medway and later moved down to Waldoboro to be closer to family.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Edward Merton and Alice (Smith) Wadsworth; brother Earl, brother Melvin; first husband, Raymond; and second husband, John Borzoni.
She leaves behind her beloved cat named Bozo, which meant the world to her and she spoiled him rotten.
Respecting Barbara’s wishes there will be no formal service to the public. The family will have a private gathering.
