WALDOBORO — Arnold W. "Bill" Achorn, 93, of Waldoboro, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on August 1, 2026.

Born on October 11, 1932, in Waldoboro, Bill was the son of Wallace Achorn and Sarah May (Porter) Achorn. A lifelong resident of the community he cherished; Bill attended the Feylers Corner School through the eighth grade before graduating from Waldoboro High School with the Class of 1950. Just recently, he enjoyed reconnecting with classmates as he attended his 76th class reunion, a milestone that brought him great joy.

Following high school, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. His service remained a source of pride throughout his life, and in April of 2024 he was deeply honored to participate in an Honor Flight Maine trip to Washington, D.C., where he visited the memorials dedicated to those who served our nation.

Bill was a hardworking man whose strong work ethic defined much of his life. He was employed at the Paragon Button Factory in Waldoboro, the Waldoboro Locker Plant, and later at GTE Sylvania, where he dedicated 25 years before retiring in 1993.

A man of many talents and interests, Bill loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the challenge of completing jigsaw puzzles and found great satisfaction in woodworking, especially crafting beautiful Adirondack lawn chairs for family and friends. He also loved playing cards, bowling at DePatsy's Bowling Alley, and sharing the dance floor with his beloved wife, Alcy, as they attended local dances together throughout the years.

Bill believed in giving back to his community and devoted countless hours to organizations that enriched the lives of others. He served as Past President of the Coastal Opportunities Board, was a member of the Coastal Opportunities Parent Group, and was honored to serve as Past Master of King Solomon's Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a proud member of the Charles C. Lilly American Legion Post #149 and the Big Bucks Club.

Above all else, Bill treasured his family. His greatest happiness came from the life he built with Alcy, his devoted wife of 70 years. Together they created a home filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. He took great pride in watching his family grow through the generations and found joy in every gathering, conversation, and shared moment.

Bill was predeceased by his parents; his six siblings; and many other beloved members of his extended family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Alcy Achorn of Waldoboro; his daughters, Eileen Achorn of San Antonio, Texas, Wendy Lokocz and her husband, Tom, of Waldoboro, and Marcia Orff of Waldoboro; his son, Scott Achorn of Camden; his special family friend, Nancy Storer Devine of Singapore; his six grandchildren, Zack, Sarah, Adam, Megan, Elyse, and Katie, along with their spouses; his twelve great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Bill will be remembered as a kind, humble, and dependable man whose quiet strength, unwavering dedication to his family, and commitment to his community left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His legacy of service, craftsmanship, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have shared in his remarkable life.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, his family has chosen to honor his life privately.
