Argy Nestor’s ‘Catching Fireflies’ on display at Gibbs Library

Event has passed

WASHINGTON — The Gibbs Library presents original artwork by Argy Nestor on exhibit during January and February. Creating art has been part of Nestor’s fabric for as long as she can remember. In 2021, she and Jean Feldeisen united art and poetry, resulting in their book, Catching Fireflies, published in September 2023.

“Each day I find myself focusing on the moments in life,” said Nestor, in a Gibbs Library news release. “I’ve always loved being outside but more recently the importance of being in awe of the world outside has been heightened. This influence reminds me to never lose sight of my responsibility as an artist, educator, and a citizen.”

Nestor taught visual arts to middle schoolers for 32 years and worked with educators throughout Maine and beyond for another 13 years. She established an educational blog in 2007, now named “Argy’s Point of View” (www.meartsed.wordpress.com), featuring over 4,5000 archived posts.

Nestor holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Maine at Orono and an undergraduate degree from Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). She was honored as the 1995 Maine Teacher of the Year, participated in the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program, and has received other awards for her dedication to education.

An  opening reception will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 1 to 3 p.m. Jean Feldeisen will be on hand to read poetry and refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
