APPLETON — Knox County Sheriff’s deputies Sunday collected and photographed materials that appeared to come from the Klu Klux Klan, after a woman in Appleton found it at the end of her driveway late Sunday morning.

Sgt. Patrick Polky said that the woman found a sandwich-size plastic bag at the end of her driveway around 11 a.m. Nov. 6. He said that she investigated the item and found that it was weighed down by a handful of rocks, along with a flyer that appeared to be from the Klu Klux Klan.

“Concerned by what she found, she collected it up and brought it to the Knox County Sheriff's Office in Rockland,” said Polky in a news release late Sunday afternoon.

Deputy Paul Pinkham met with the woman at the Sheriff's Office and investigated the items. Polky said that Pinkham found no cause for alarm or concern that a crime has or will be committed. The items were photographed and collected by Pinkham.

Polky said that this was the only report the agency had received of this nature at that time. But after this story was posted and shared on social media, Facebook lit up and at least one person sent an email to PenBayPilot and reported that were “dozens of these envelopes scattered around Appleton and possibly further afield, seemingly randomly, and not in every driveway.”

It was reported that most of the flyers were seen on the driveways of homes displaying a Donald Trump sign, but also at least one was found on the driveway of a home displaying a Hilary Clinton sign, as well as some on driveways with the no political signs.
