Amateur Radio Club to participate in ARRL Field Day at Owls Head Transportation Museum
Event Date
Saturday, June 27, 2026 - 02:00 pmThe Pen Bay Amateur Radio Club (W1PBR) will participate in ARRL Field Day on June 27-28, 2026, at the Owls Head Transportation Museum, 117 Museum Street, Owls Head.
Field Day is the nation's largest amateur radio event and combines emergency communications training with public outreach, according to the Radio Club, in a news release. During the 24-hour exercise, amateur radio operators will set up temporary stations and demonstrate how communications can be established when traditional systems are unavailable.
This year's event coincides with the museum's First Responder Weekend, featuring more than 100 years of historic fire and emergency response vehicles. Together, the events highlight the important role communications and public safety play in serving communities during emergencies.
Visitors can watch operators make radio contacts across the United States and around the world, learn about emergency communications, and try amateur radio for themselves at a Get On The Air (GOTA) station under the supervision of licensed operators.
The event begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27, and concludes at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28. The public is welcome to attend.
