Alice K. Frye, obituary
ROCKLAND — Alice K. Frye, 93, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 26, 2025.
Alice was born at Knox Hospital in Rockland on April 11, 1932 to James and Emma (Coltart) Kinney. She grew up at the homestead now known as Echo Hill and moved to Rockland where she graduated high school in 1950. She spent the first summer after graduation working on Monhegan. Later she began employment with Lincoln McRae Investments working there until 1958. She enjoyed going to the movies and was fond of her blue convertible with the plaid top.
In 1957 Alice met Donald Frye at a dance at Simonton's Corner Hall. They were married in November of that year. Both loved music and dancing, and were known for their footwork as they attended many dances over the years. They celebrated 60 years together.
After several years of being a homemaker, Alice went to work in the school lunch program at Camden-Rockport where she stayed for over 25 years. She found a great group of friends in her co-workers.
Alice’s father, James, passed when she was just 2 months old, but being the youngest of nine, she was loved greatly by a huge family. From Christmas parties to playing cards with her sisters, the Kinney’s were close knit. After marrying Donald she was welcomed into another large family. Aunt Alice was cherished by many and was also known to be the keeper of much family history. A beloved mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
Alice was predeceased by her husband, Donald, who passed in 2017; her daughter Susan, who passed in 2020; and her son, Donald, Jr., who passed in 1996. Alice was also predeceased by all eight of her siblings.
Alice is survived by her daughter Nancy Keller and her husband Clarence of Hope; her daughter Kathryn Frye of Rockport; her son-in-law Tom Berry of Billerica, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Trisha Cochran and her husband Isaiah of Union, Jonathan Keller and his partner Georgette of Hope, Kristin Weed and her husband AJ of Lincolnville, Kyle Berry of Billerica, Massachusetts; three great-grandchildren, Nolan and Noah Cochran of Union and Finn Weed of Lincolnville; and many nieces and nephews and a large loving extended family.
A celebration of life will be held late spring/summer. A private interment will take place at the family’s request.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, everyone enjoy some live music and always keep a song and Alice in your heart.
