MIDCOAST — The athletes on the 7Tree FC team, made up of high school students from Lincoln and Knox counties, are fundraising to attend the 2020 Donosti Cup in San Sebastian, Spain.

To get there, the team is looking to raise $50,000 by May 2020.

To help them achieve the goal, First National Bank recently announced a $10,000 donation to the 7Tree Football Club for the trip.

“We’re proud to support the 7Tree Football Club players Dream Big!” said First National Bank’s president and CEO, Tony McKim, in a news release. “Their dedication to teamwork and volunteerism provides a great example to student athletes in our community.”

Since 1992, the Donosti Cup in San Sebastian, Spain has hosted participants from more than 60 countries and five continents in an international soccer tournament, according to the release.

“Our goal is to provide a chance to explore a new culture, through soccer, to kids who otherwise might not have the chance to travel abroad,” said 7Tree FC’s coach, Patrick Mellor, in the release. “One of the defining elements of our club is giving back to the community that supports us. Our players will each choose at least two volunteer activities to which they will give their time and efforts.”
