On January 17th, the Mid-Coast Recovery Coalition (MCRC) began a new chapter for the historic house located at 63 Washington Street.  Opened in 1898 to provide care to “Aged Camden Women,” it became vacant after nearly 120 years when the last elderly resident passed away in 2017.  It seemed that, unless the community acted fast, the 120-year legacy of serving women in our community would come to an end.  The community responded with resounding support with 400 individuals donating more than $160,000 in 30 days to allow MCRC to take ownership of the building and it is now preparing to accept the first women residents in recovery from addiction this summer.  The legacy of a community supported home for women will now continue.

Over the past few months, many dozens of people have come forth to volunteer their time and talents to help support the women residents, maintain the house and to enrich the community garden and the grounds.   With this growing “community within a community” serving the needs of the house and its residents, it makes sense to create a forum for everyone to be informed and to communicate with each other.

This message is a “call to action” for those interested in helping in ANY capacity at 63 Washington to visit the MCRC website and to click on this page: https://midcoastrecovery.org/join-us/   We will be in touch with you in the coming weeks to keep you up to date and to see how you can participate.  We will also keep you informed through meetings we will set up.

If you have any questions about this, please contact us at info@midcoastrecovery.orgor by calling 207-701-1182.  Thank you!
