Addressing Childcare Gaps in Midcoast Maine

Fri, 04/30/2021 - 8:15am

Penobscot Bay YMCA CEO Melissa Bellew will discuss childcare gaps in Midcoast Maine at Camden Rotary Club’s Zoom meeting at noon Tuesday, May 11.

Bellew’s talk is the ninth in a series the club is hosting on local economic and workforce development challenges. It will cover the widening needs for childcare across Maine, particularly in the Midcoast, as necessary for many working families. As Bellew states, “Childcare is a critical component of our state’s infrastructure and workforce development.”

Bellew has 28 years of experience as a public defender and private legal practitioner and now serves as a pro bono attorney. She has provided expertise at the local and state levels on Maine’s childcare gaps.

Camden Rotary is exploring many aspects of economic and workforce development, from career opportunities and career tech education to measures for increasing access to broadband and affordable housing. The club’s website at www.camdenrotary.org includes recordings of all the talks in this series.
