Author Rich Cohen to speak in Belfast, July 2
Left Bank Books, in downtown Belfast, invites the public to a free talk by New York Times bestselling author Rich Cohen on Wednesday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m., at the bookshop. The event celebrates the recent release of Cohen’s nonfiction book Murder in the Dollhouse: The Jennifer Dulos Story, "a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a beautiful, rich, suburban mother of five who dropped her kids off at school one morning in 2019 and vanished. Her body has never been found," said Left Bank, in a news release.
The events and facts of Jennifer Dulos's story have been extensively reported in The New York Times, and theories surrounding the case have been spun and dissected endlessly. Cohen, author of several NYT bestselling nonfiction books, lives just a few miles from where most of the tragic events took place. "In reading about [Jennifer], in visiting the places she had been and talking to the people she had known," Cohen writes, "I felt like I was seeing the story of my own generation in a convex mirror."
Murder in the Dollhouse is a gripping story of status, wealth, love, and hate. Dulos was in the midst of an ugly divorce—one of the most contentious in Connecticut state history. She and her husband had led what appeared to be a charmed life. In the wake of her disappearance, Dulos’s husband and his girlfriend were arrested. He killed himself on the day he was supposed to report to court; she was tried and convicted of conspiracy to commit murder.
A few of Cohen’s previous books (all nonfiction), include Monsters: The 1985 Chicago Bears and the Wild Heart of Football; The Sun & the Moon & the Rolling Stones; The Chicago Cubs: Story of a Curse, and Pee Wees: Confessions of a Hockey Parent. He is a co-creator, with Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger, of the HBO series Vinyl, an Editor at Large at Air Mail, and a columnist at the Wall Street Journal. He has written for The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Harper’s Magazine, among other publications. His stories have appeared in The Best American Essays and The Best American Travel Writing.
