Union elects Adam Fuller to Select Board, approves mining moratorium
UNION: Citizens in Union took care of their annual town meeting business June 13 at the polls with 721 ballots cast. They approved a mining ordinance, elected Adam Fuller with 372 votes to the Select Board, and Nichole Taylor with 360 votes to the RSU 40 school board, and agreed on a $4.2 million municipal budget.
Voters also elected Argera Nestor, with 328 votes, to be a trustee of the William L. Pullen Fund, and John Mountainland to the Budget Committee.
The municipal ballot included the town warrant with 36 additional articles, including a moratorium on mining in Union and a citizens’ initiative to amend the land use ordinance to regulate and control mining. The warrant also includes the municipal budget.
The $34 million budget for RSU 40 passed by a vote of 489 to 200. RSU 40 comprises Waldoboro, Warren, Friendship, Washington and Union K-12 public schools.

Articles 7 through 17 addressed a $4.24 million budget, which passed.
Article 18 proposed reducing total tax bills with $1.5 million revenues, and passed.
Articles 19 through 36 concerned municipal business, such as setting the tax payment dates and imposing an 8 percent interest on unpaid taxes.
They passed.
Article 31 assessed $146,699 on Washington for ambulance service and Appleton $134,410. It passed.
