Swanville man arrested after neighbor stabbed, police say
SWANVILLE — A confrontation between neighbors turned violent at a Swanville residence July 26, resulting in one arrest.
Jeffrey Stump, 37, of Swanville, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, and aggravated reckless conduct following the incident.
Waldo County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the residence after a witness to the confrontation called police, according to Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton.
The victim told deputies that he and Stump had gotten into an argument after Stump asked him for a ride to Searsport, culminating in Stump stabbing him in the leg.
During the confrontation, Stump reportedly produced a knife and threatened to kill the victim, who told deputies Stump then came toward him, eventually stabbing him.
It is unclear whether the weapon used was a knife, or a magnetic pick-up tool, police said. The weapon was described at different times as both, according to Trafton.
Whatever was used, Stump told law enforcement he had tossed the weapon in the woods.
The victim was transported to Waldo County General Hospital by ambulance for treatment of his wound.
Stump left the area before law enforcement arrived, but later spoke with officers by phone and was arrested at another location.
He is currently being held on $2,500 cash bail.
