ROCKPORT – Pamela ‘Pam’ Hoffmann, 66, beloved wife of Tim Hoffmann, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, in the early morning hours on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Pen Bay Medical Center. 

Born on December 19, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa, Pam was the daughter of Ervin and Margaret Heisinger Hopper. She was educated in Iowa and South Dakota and graduated in 1969 from Roncalli High School in Aberdeen, South Dakota. 

Following high school, Pam owned and operated a family pharmacy in Ivanhoe, Minnesota, with her husband, Kim Heintzman. Together, they welcomed two children to their family, T.J. and Kasey. They eventually sold their business and settled in Aberdeen, South Dakota. 

After her marriage to Kim ended, Pam relocated to Willmar, Minnesota, where she opened a women’s clothing store. She was introduced by friends to Tim, who had three children of his own, and the two were married the following year. Tim accepted a position with Pen Bay Medical Center in 1986, and the family relocated to Camden, Maine.

Pam dedicated the following years to raising her five children. She later accomplished her lifetime goal of becoming a social worker, graduating from the University of Maine at Farmington. Throughout her career, Pam worked for the State of Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services in the Protective Child Division as well as the International Adoption Services Center, which led to the adoption of her sixth child, Annie. She concluded her professional career as an Ed-Tech in the local school system. 

Pam genuinely enjoyed various forms of exercise, including long walks with her beloved dog, Lucy, horseback riding, and water aerobics, among other activities. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. She conducted extensive work with dog rescue organizations and was known on the East Coast as a go-to resource for rescue activity. 

Pam’s number one priority in life was her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren, and she had an infectious smile that shined vibrantly when surrounded by those she loved. She provided all of her grandchildren with precious lasting memories that reflect her personal focus and attention toward each child. Her emphatic laugh would radiate throughout the room and she had an exceptional sense of humor, often leaving witty written reminders for her family signed ‘The Management.’ 

Pam was caring beyond words and had an immense heart for others. Her work behind the scenes so often went unnoticed but ultimately benefited countless lives. After passing, Pam fulfilled her final wish by donating her organs. Her desire to become an organ donor enabled her to continue a legacy of giving and helping others, even after her death. She will be truly missed by many.

Predeceased by her father, Ervin Hopper, and a brother, Larry Hopper, Pam is survived by her mother, Margaret Hopper of Aberdeen, South Dakota; her husband, whom she absolutely adored, Timothy Hoffmann of Rockport; her children, Shelli Livesay and her husband, Jamie, of Westminster, Massachusetts; T.J. Heintzman and his wife, Alicen, of Hope; Mike Hoffmann and his wife, Mary, of Rockport; Kasey Cole and her husband, Mike, of Thomaston; Aimee Smith and her husband, Robert, of Medford, Massachusetts; and Annie Hoffmann, of Rockport; her grandchildren, Ryan and Jack Livesay, Kaitlin and Georgia Heintzman, Ben and Bella Hoffmann, Piper Greenleaf, Olivia Cole, and Porter Smith; her siblings, Patty Brungardt, Mike Hopper and his wife Barbara, and Tom Hopper, all of Aberdeen, South Dakota; as well as a large extended family throughout the Midwest. 

Family and friends were invited to visit from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
