New Union Farmers Market to hold open house, April 19
UNION — Midcoast Farmers Alliance (MFA) and Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) invite the public to an Open House at Midcoast Farmers Union Site, the future home of the New Union Farmers Market and former Coastal Blueberry Services property at the entrance to the Union Fairgrounds, 61 Common Road.
The Open House will be held Friday, April 19, from 3 to 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for the community to learn about this space for farmers, the vision for the New Union Farmers Market, and how to apply as a vendor for the 2024 season. There will be live music and representatives of MFA and MCHT to share information.
Maine Farmland Trust bought the former Coastal Blueberry Services property in 2022 with the goal of utilizing it to support local agriculture. The site has one main multi-use space for (processing, retail, etc.) with an expansive back porch and loading docks; as well as several outbuildings for storage and other uses. In collaboration with Maine Farmland Trust, Maine Coast Heritage Trust helped farmers organize four retail pop-ups at the site in the 2023 season.
