Merryspring online talk explores Ducktrap River

Event has passed

Tim Shaw will lead an online presentation called, Ducktrap River, hosted by Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, April 30, at 12 p.m.

Shaw is on the board of Georges River Chapter of Trout Unlimited (GRTU) that is currently working on conservation of the Ducktrap River. His presentation will show why it is of such importance to the ecology of the Midcoast.

“The priority waters selected in Maine represent the best opportunities we have to conserve and recover wild trout and salmon,” said Roy Hitchings, president of the GRTU in Midcoast Maine, in a Merryspring news release.” Working together we can meet the moment and apply all of our collective resources where they’ll have the greatest impact.”

Trout Unlimited works at a national scale to protect and recover waters through partnerships, policy, advocacy, science- driven restoration and community engagement. Working with volunteers and trusted partners, TU developed the focused list of priority waters state-by-state to channel where its efforts will be most effective for native and wild trout and salmon.

“The work we do in Maine includes restoring rivers, removing dams, replacing culverts to reconnect habitat, and pushing for smarter and more effective management of wild and native populations,” said Hitchings. “This work has the additional benefits of improving local water quality and reducing flood risk.”

Online Talks are open to everybody, free of charge.
