Mary A. Gricus, obituary

CAMDEN —  Mary A. Gricus, 86, peacefully passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Mary will be missed by her loving husband of 67 years, Kenneth Gricus, of Camden; her brother Cornelius Bonner, of Illinois; her daughters Angela Bryant and her partner Joey, of North Rose, N.Y., and Carolyn Costello and her husband William, of West Warwick, R.I.; her son Kenneth Paul Gricus, of Kihei, Hawaii; her five grandchildren, Jesse McFadden, Emily McFadden, Shannon Leighton, Joseph Costello and Stephen Costello; as well as seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two eldest sons, Joseph Gricus and Louis Gricus, as well as a grandson Tyler Gricus.

Throughout her career, Mary enjoyed working with children in the pediatric office of Dr. Peter Holtz for over 20 years. She was very musically inclined and was a member of Schooner Bells. Later, she became a long-standing member of Harborside Harmony, performing at multiple assisted living/nursing homes and Montpelier during the holidays.

She was active in her community and was awarded the Rotary Paul Harris Award from the Rockland Rotary Club. Mary enjoyed cooking and could make anything taste amazing. She also had the magical ability to make everyone feel good. Mary was an active member of America’s Boating Club and enjoyed sailing with her husband on their 30-foot sailboat, Mariah.

For most of her life she was an active member of Our Lady of Good Hope Church and served on the Women’s Club there.

She will be sorely missed as a friend, advisor, and confidant.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, December 4, 2023 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m.., Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church, 7 Union Street, Camden. Private interment will be held at Maplewood Cemetery.
