A day at the polls
UMaine journalism student Hailey Inman, of Searsmont, spent several hours visiting polling stations in Camden, Rockport, Lincolnville and Searsmont to talk with municipal clerks about the voting process, and photographing a slice of history on Nov. 5, 2024. Here is her story:
These photos give you a small window into what voting was like in Midcoast Maine today November 5, 2024.
As this is my first time voting in such an influential election, I took the time to tour various voting locations around the Midcoast of Maine as a student journalist. Lynda Clancy took me under her wing as a shadow to experience the liveliness of voters and their towns today. I was able to take photos and talk to political candidates, Camden’s Fire Chief, and many voters.
The towns I visited included Camden, Rockport, Lincolnville, and Searsmont. Throughout this process, I have seen people like me voting in their first election, and those representing the eldest in their community.
The communities were quite welcoming and I was immediately brought into the action of everyone being together for a bigger purpose.
Within the course of events that I witnessed, I have confidence in the voting process of our region and hopefully the rest of the United States as well.
