The City of Rockland adopted the Fiscal Year 2027 Municipal Budget during the June 22, 2026 City Council meeting. According to the City, in a news release, the Budget was adopted following months of public workshops, review, and community input.
"The FY27 budget reflects a balanced approach – investing in the services and infrastructure residents depend on today while positioning Rockland for long-term success and responsible fiscal management," said the City, in the news release.
"At a time when communities across the state continue to face rising costs, Rockland has adopted a municipal budget that remains focused on fiscal responsibility and critical investments in our city," said City Manager Tom Luttrell. "This budget strengthens core city services, supports critical infrastructure and community priorities, and keeps municipal spending growth below the rate of inflation. It reflects a disciplined approach to managing taxpayer dollars while positioning Rockland for continued success."
"The City’s FY27 budget reflects a continued commitment to delivering high-quality municipal services while maintaining a strong focus on fiscal responsibility and long-term financial sustainability," said the release. "Despite ongoing inflationary pressures and rising costs throughout the local economy, the municipal budget was developed with careful cost controls and strategic planning, resulting in a budget that remains below the rate of inflation. This approach aligns with the 2022 Comprehensive Plan and helps protect taxpayers while preserving essential city services.
"While focusing on fiscal responsibilities, the adopted budget makes targeted investments in public safety, including support for police, fire, and EMS operations to ensure residents and visitors continue to receive reliable emergency services. The budget continues investment in public infrastructure and capital maintenance, helping address long-term needs while reducing the risk of larger future costs. In addition, the budget includes support for city parks, recreation facilities, and community spaces that contribute to quality of life and make Rockland an attractive place to live, work, and visit.
"The City's commitment to economic vitality is maintained through continued support for downtown services, harbor operations, and investments that strengthen Rockland's role as a regional economic center. At the same time, Rockland remains committed to responsible financial management, maintaining adequate reserves, pursuing grants and outside funding opportunities, and carefully evaluating expenditures to maximize value for taxpayers."
