Alice Limoges, singer-songwriters ages eight to eighty to perform Camden concert

CAMDEN — On Sunday, January 21, from 2 - 4:30 p.m., songwriters ages eight to eighty will perform a concert of original music at Symmetree, in Camden. The concert is organized by local musician and songwriting teacher Alice Limoges. Artists to be featured will be Vivienne Bush (age 8 of Lincolnville), Abby Aldridge-Peacock (age 16 of Rockport), missofija (age 19 of Oakland), Dave Cranney (age 50 of Lincolnville), and Anthony Cann (age 80 of Loganville, Georgia).

Limoges has been mentoring these and other musicians out of her home in Camden since she moved back to Maine in 2020. Prior to the pandemic, the Rockport native was pursuing her music career and further musical education in NYC, but had a joyful homecoming, documented in her 2023 music release, Where The Mountains Meet The Sea.

The songwriters have a 72 year age range and represent the human experience across many walks of life. Anthony Cann (80) of Georgia began working with Limoges on a two month trip to Maine two years ago. When he decided to return for a further two months this winter, Limoges was inspired to offer him and several other musicians the opportunity to perform their original music in front of an audience.

The youngest student, Vivienne Bush, is only 8 years old. Abby Aldrige-Peacock is a sophomore at CHRHS and missofija, a college sophomore, has already begun pursuing gigs, recording her first album, and figuring out the next steps in her own music career. Bassist Dave Cranney is a father to 3 children and a retired army paratrooper.

“It has been so incredible to watch all their journeys and transformations as they master the craft of expressing themselves through songwriting,” said Limoges, in a news release. “I am lucky to get to work with artists of all ages and I learn as much from them as they do from me. They cover the whole spectrum, from Vivienne’s songs about foxes tromping through the woods to Anthony’s songs in the twilight of his life. I know how powerful it feels to share my songs with an audience and look forward to seeing my students experience this for themselves!”

Limoges will offer musical and vocal accompaniment for some of their songs as well as perform a few of her own songs.

“Songwriting is a beautiful thing,” said Vivienne, age 8. “And if you’re into music like me I bet you would like trying to write some songs. It makes me feel amazing! And I know that you could write something beautiful. Or weird. Whatever you’re into.”

The concert will take place at Symmetree Base Camp, at 20 Bayview Street, in Camden. A suggested donation of $5-20 will be collected at the door. The concert will be documented on video by Geoff Parker.
