UNITY — Two people were arrested after a traffic stop resulted in the discovery of 70 grams of crack cocaine, Maine State Police said in a Facebook post.

Elisha Savoy, 28, of Washington, the driver of the vehicle, was charged with operating with expired registration as a result of her investigation. Her passenger, Tyrone Saunders, 49, of Brooklyn, New York, was charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs.

The vehicle was stopped by Trooper Tom Bureau on School Street in Unity Aug. 1, around 10:30 a.m., for lack of a front license plate. Following a roadside investigation, Trooper Bureau called for a K9 unit to respond. Trooper Luke Martin arrived as back-up and Corporal Derrick Record responded with his K9 Tess.

In addition to 70 grams of crack cocaine, what MSP believe is heroin was found in loaded hypodermic needles in the vehicle; approximately $1,000 and prescription medication were also found in the vehicle.

Additional charges may be pending, according to the post.
