OWLS HEAD — Thomas E. Ross, 72, died peacefully with his loving family at his side, Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at his home following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body Dementia.

Born in Bangor, May 18, 1951, he was the son of Blynn and Zello Campbell Ross. Tom attended and graduated from Mt. Abraham High School in 1970, later earning his Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Maine at Farmington. Eventually, Tom earned a Masters in Education from the University of Southern Maine.

Tom lived a very full life and has accomplished many things.

He began his career in education, teaching first in Kingfield where he earned the position of Principal. He continued teaching at Mt. Abraham and Georges Valley High School, coaching several sports at both schools. In 1982, Tom was appointed as the Director of Thomaston Recreation Department, a job he greatly enjoyed. He loved being outdoors, hiking, camping, boating and fishing. He could often be found on the golf course, enjoying a round with family and friends. He loved riding horses with his beloved wife, Janette, at Heartspot Stables, the farm they built together in Thomaston.

Most recently, Tom owned and operated Broad Cove Builders in Warren. A self-taught and well-studied builder, he enjoyed designing and building homes throughout the Midcoast and across the state.

Tom’s family was the number one priority in his life. Spending time with them and getting together with friends brought him the most happiness. He was truly one of a kind who made those around him better to have known and loved him, and would quietly do whatever was needed to make someone else’s life better.

He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Predeceased by his parents and his brother Robert Ross; Tom is survived by his wife, Janette Ross of Owls Head; his children Nathaniel Ross and his wife Melanie and their daughter Estella of Cumberland, Calvin Allen and his girlfriend Allie of Gardiner, Mary Allen of Charleston, South Carolina; his brother John Ross and his wife Gretchen of Fairfield; and his sister, Marilyn Howe and her husband William of Kingfield; as well as a large, loving extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit during an upbeat and informal celebration of life Friday, April 5, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, c/o St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, 7 Union Street, Camden, ME 04843.

A private graveside service will take place at West Freeman Cemetery at a later date.
