John Burstein revives the role of Clarence Darrow for 2 performances only at the Camden Opera House, as the widely acclaimed "Darrow" returns to the mid-coast this July.

Writes Dagney Ernest of the Free Press: "The play, by David Rintels, portrays famous attorney Clarence Darrow, champion of underdogs, as he reminisces about his many sensational and often controversial trials." Peppered with salty humor, courtroom gusto and human relish, John Burstein’s portrayal of the colorful attorney who successfully argued such high-profile cases as the Scopes “Monkey” trial is riveting and highly entertaining.

Although Darrow’s career spanned the early decades of the 20th century, the issues he dealt with: racial prejudice, income inequality, religious intolerance and worker exploitation will resonate strongly with modern audiences. As Darrow put it, “I fight for the poor, the weak and the weary. For that long line of men, who in darkness and despair have borne the labors of the human race.”

New England Arab American Organization - NEAAO is proud to invite you to a staged reading of an incredible new play entitled Lost and Guided

Written and directed by Irene Kapustina, Lost and Guided tells the story of how the lives of four young Syrians are changed forever after anti-government protests transpire in the city of Daraa. Throughout the next six years, each of them is forced to undergo a unique and heroic journey, while the turmoil in their country erupts into a full-fledged civil war. From the Middle East to the streets of New Orleans, Lost and Guided is a universal story of love, friendship, and the struggle for happiness. Lost and Guided is an original play based on interviews with Syrian refugees. 90% of the script was taken directly from interview transcripts.

The play was produced by Conrad Fischer and The Angle Project in August 2017 and originally ran for 4 consecutive weeks at UNDER St. Marks Theater in New York City. Critics called it: “an incredible new play” (ABC News),”a stunning new play” (Huffington Post), “Theatre at its best…” (The Reviews Hub) The play’s production was also profiled in Entertainment Weekly.

The first up in the new Camden Opera House MaineMadeMusic Series! Vicky Andres and Life Itself team up with 61 Ghosts to deliver an unprecedented Opera House experience.

Immersed in her live shows, Vicky Andres performs with complete abandon. She leaves every performance energized. Her passionate vocals can move from a vulnerable whisper to a courageous roar! Her intricate guitar work is driving and rhythmic. She mixes funk, single note lines with chord progressions that flow with a songwriting sensibility that hook the listener and never let go. Together Vicky, Max and Jason deliver an intense performance that is edgy, energetic and positive, fitting somewhere between Alternative, Rock and Funk.

61 Ghosts are the duo of Joe Mazzari on guitar and vocal and the singularly named Dixie on drums and backing vocals create steamy grooves, razor-sharp dynamics and high energy to create what they refer to as Alternative Blues.
