KNOX COUNTY — Temperatures in Knox County climbed above 60 degrees, Monday, April 29. With that rise in temps, 911 calls of varying degrees kept responders busy throughout traditional work-day hours.

Wthin approximately 30 minutes of each other, two vehicles at opposite sides of the county ended up in ponds, beginning at approximately 12:45 p.m., in Appleton. Union Ambulance, along with Appleton firefighters, responded to the Appleton Ridge Road after a report that a person had been removed from a sinking car. CPR began, yet the person could not be revived. This incident remains under investigation by the KCSO.

Soon after, in South Thomaston, a vehicle ended up in a pond at the intersection of Buttermilk Lane and Iron Tree Road. Initially reports mentioned that one of the two occupants was still in the vehicle. With South Thomaston ambulance in St. George assisting with a medical call, Rockland EMS was called to help with a possible extrication and medical assistance as needed. However, South Thomaston Ambulance was clearing from St. George anyway, allowing Rockland to return and to be available for the next call, which was a medical call that came in soon after. Because the occupants involved in the pond incident were unable to deal with their dog within the next few hours, an Animal Control Officer from a neighboring town retrieved the canine.

Earlier in the day, just prior to 8 a.m., a man wanted on a warrant was seen entering a convenience store in Warren. When the man begin physically fighting with the responding deputy, and with responding deputies far away, a call for help was sent over the police airways, triggering a response from Thomaston, Rockland, and Waldoboro police departments.
