Mary Jean Clifford, obituary
ROCKLAND — Mary Jean Clifford, 98, died on August 9, 2025 in Rockland. Born in Anoka, Minnesota on July 27, 1927 and was the only child of Edward C. and Charlotte (Addington) Peters. She received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Northwestern University and married Donald Clifford in 1951.
Mary Jean and Don resided in Minnesota, Iowa, Connecticut before moving to Maine in the 1980’s. During her nursing career, she worked in operating rooms and emergency rooms of various hospitals. In Maine she enjoyed her work as a home health nurse at Kno-Wal-Lin.
She loved living close to the ocean and enjoyed their life of ministry on the “Sunbeam” ministering to the island along the Maine coast. Mary Jean and Don lived on Vinalhaven for several years when he served at the Union Church.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the earth-bound angels at Woodlands Memory Care and Andwell Hospice for their compassionate care.
Predeceased by her husband, Donald Clifford in 2007 and daughter, Kathleen in 2018; she is survived by her son, Dan Clifford and his wife, Cindy, of Minnesota; 3 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
There are no services planned and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
