UNION — As Union prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, anticipation is building for a weekend of festivities from July 19 to 21. A centerpiece of this grand occasion will be the Sestercentennial Parade, set to march through the heart of Union Common.

The Union Select Board announces Janice Linscott as the esteemed Grand Marshal for this historic parade. Linscott’s roots run deep in Union, having been born and raised here. Her dedication to the community and tireless volunteer efforts have made her a beloved figure throughout the town.

“As a native of Union and having spent many years working in the Union School, Janice has extensive knowledge of the families in town and who’s related, who’s living where, and who did what” said Union Select Board member Martha Johnston-Nash.

“She’s my trusted source of information and a beloved figure,” added Johnston-Nash, affectionately referring to Linscott by her childhood nickname, ‘Sis’, while playfully suggesting that ‘Gram’ might now be more fitting.

Following Linscott’s graduation from Union High School in 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Bob Linscott. Together they raised two sons, Milton and Rick. Throughout her life, Janice has been deeply involved in her community, dedicating her time to numerous volunteer activities. She has organized events and helped in various community services, demonstrating her commitment to making a positive impact on those around her.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Linscott was honored with the Courier Gazette Community Service Award in 1997, highlighting her significant efforts and dedication to serving others.

“Janice embodies the spirit of Union, and her role as Grand Marshal symbolizes the town’s unity and resilience over 250 years,” said Union Sestercentennial Committee, in a news release.
