Local newspapers still cover books and events—but the process has largely changed.
Many major U.S. newspapers began reducing or eliminating stand-alone book review sections as part of broader cuts in arts and cultural coverage around the early 2000s.
Many smaller newspapers either cut back or eliminated separate book editorial staff and sections as part of cost-saving measures. So, if you're looking to get your book reviewed by a Maine newspaper, it's going to be tough. However, if you have a Maine-centered new book release or a Maine-tied event, your chances are much better to get your press release in the paper.
While there's no guarantee that pitching your book will get coverage or a review, here are the various products you can download for around $10 apiece:
• Four separate Maine media directories that cover the entire state-or just pick one where you live.
• A sample pitch email outline
• Dos & don’ts that reflect today’s newsrooms
