The Penobscot Bay YMCA is proud to announce the launch of an exciting new program called Wave Makers, a community involvement adaptive swim program. Wave Makers provides a supportive environment for children with physical or developmental challenges by matching them with dedicated and caring volunteers to provide one-on-one attention in a group lesson setting.

The Y has a long and rich history of being a cause driven organization that is committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Wave Makers is a wonderful program that invites community members to lead and participate in volunteer service projects that benefit the communities in which they live.

Wave Makers is a rewarding way to give back and support neighbors. The Y welcomes all talented volunteers who either want to get in the pool and actively assist a child or who wish to help with administrative duties. The rewards that you will receive from helping a child learn lifesaving skills as well as gain confidence in and around the water are immeasurable.

The Penobscot Bay YMCA is accepting financial donations to assist with the cost of adaptive equipment. For more information on how your child can benefit from the Wave Makers program, or to express interest in being one of our amazing volunteers, please email the Y’s Aquatics team at aquatics@penbayymca.org or call 236.3375 ext. 222.
