Bringing veterans together: Kinney-Melquist American Legion Post 34 invites new members
Modern U.S. history across the country reflects very long years of combat in Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks on the United States in 2001. Many men and women from all of our armed forces serving in the Middle East in war veteran missions and were exposed to combat under difficult conditions. Veterans organizations like the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars these days have many older members from World War II, the Korean War and war in Vietnam. The Kinney-Melquist American Legion Post 34, in St. George, is hoping to encourage our younger men and women veterans to join our post and share in our community service and memories.
In May, the Kinney-Melquist American Legion Post-34 honored two special veterans who had served in combat many years ago: Joe Kirk (Korean War) and Paul Dalrymple (POW World War II)
Paul Dalrymple served in the Army in World War II and Joe Kirk was a Marine Corps veteran in the Korean War in the 1950s.
Many of our veterans served in combat areas and it gave them memories of their Brothers who did not survive. These thoughts were brought to all as our Post 34 veterans placed flags in a St. George cemetery for Memorial Day, and marched in the parade in Tenants Harbor honoring the service of our veterans with the entire community.
Post 34 members recent discussions have focused on welcoming young veterans who have served in the Middle Eastern conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11.
We are inviting young veterans who have served in the last 15 years of war in the Middle East to join our post.
Kinney-Melquist Post 34 would like to invite all who have served our country to contact our post in an email to Bob Branco (rbrancoddg2@gmail.com) or a call our Adjutant Jan Gaudio (594-0025) to discuss joining our post.
We would be very happy to have you help us support our community organizations and youth groups such as the Boy and Girl scouts. Veterans who have experienced deployments overseas in foreign countries and have supported each other are special lifelong friends with many memories.
