Lincolnville to close portion of Slab City Road, July 10 to September
Lincolnville has engaged a contractor to replace the culvert that carries the waters from Coleman Pond under Slab City Road. The project site is located just east of Mass Pike (approximately 1.8 miles west of State Route 173 and 1.4 miles east of State Route 52), see maps.
Due to the environmental regulations that govern the replacement of this culvert, the town will be replacing the current pipe with an open bottom pipe arch.
The purpose of the open bottom is to allow the area under the pipe arch to replicate a natural stream bed thus making it easier for fish passage.
“Fortunately, the Town was able to acquire a number of grants to offset a large portion of the cost of this work,” according to the Town Administrator David Kinney. “Unfortunately, this type of work takes longer to install and will necessitate an extended road closure.”
The current plan is for the road to be closed at this location starting on July 10 and continuing throughout the duration of the project. The contract calls for the road to be re-opened on or before September 3. All involved are hopeful and aiming for an early completion.
All public safety and emergency services are aware of the planned closure.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project please contact Kinney at the Town Office, 207-763-3555.
