Man gets two years for assaulting 11-week-old infant
BELFAST — A Florida man was sentenced to serve two years in prison for the 2016 assault of his infant, in Belfast Unified Court June 26.
Neil A. Lagasse, 20, was charged with aggravated assault, and domestic violence assault on a child less than six years old as a result of the Dec. 16 attack, which took place in a Northport residence.
Lagasse, who was 19 at the time of the assault, took the badly injured child to Waldo County General Hospital where it was discovered that the baby had multiple broken bones.
The child, aged 11 weeks at the time of the incident, was transferred to a hospital in Portland via Lifeflight of Maine due to the seriousness of the injuries.
Law enforcement was alerted after hospital staff became suspicious of the way the injuries were sustained.
While Lagasse will spend two years in prison for assault, the aggravated assault charge was dismissed as part of a plea deal.
