Rockland Council passes yard sale ordinance, postpones recreational measure to July
ROCKLAND – Starting in mid-July, Rockland residents may only hold yard sales four times per year. On Monday, June 12, the four-member council voted unanimously in favor of this ordinance after postponing the measure last month.
Along with the four-per-year stipulation, the ordinance also requires that sales be limited to daylight hours, no new items may be sold, and all items not sold must be removed from the premises.
As for recreational vehicles, Councilor Adam Ackor requested to postpone the vote until the July meeting.
“While I think that 99 percent of this works for me personally, I feel there is still an issue with some of the language in Section C: Number 2. I’d like to see us investigate further,” Ackor said.
Councilor Valli Geiger concurred.
“I don’t think we are there yet,” Geiger said in regards to the sense of a particular passage. “Number 2 and 2A reads as making an exception just to make an exception for a fraternal organization. It’s not like there are bathrooms there. It’s not like there’s a black water hookup. I just don’t see the difference as to what’s being given to them versus anyone else.”
The passage in question:
Passage 2: A single RV may be occupied on private property outside of an approved campsite, campground, or RV park for no more than one week if it meets the following standards:
2A: The RV is occupied by visitors or relatives of the owner of the property.
