Single-side parking on Sea Street to be enforced in Camden
CAMDEN — With summer finally here in the Midcoast, the town of Camden will begin enforcing new parking rules on Sea Street, which the town approved last fall as an experimental measure to improve traffic safety and maneuverability.
In response to Camden Police Chief Randy Gagne's description last fall that a drive down Sea Street on a typical summer day is "like threading a needle," the Select Board voted unanimously on Oct. 7 to approve the chief's request to prohibit parking on the harbor side of the street. Traditionally, the street has been used by residents, visitors and local workers for parking on both sides.
The area has now been posted where parking is prohibited, and a fine of $30 may be assessed for any violations.
“This area will be monitored for violators, which will be handled appropriately by parking enforcement and patrols,” said Gagne in a news release.
Anyone with questions can call the Camden Police Department at 236-7953.
