World Thinking Day celebrated by Girl Scouts and leaders

ROCKLAND – Nearly 85 Girl Scouts and registered leaders and volunteers celebrated World Thinking Day on Feb. 20, at an eventmhosted by the Knox Service Unit and held at the Rockland Salvation Army.
Celebrated since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship, speaking out on issues that affect girls and young women, and fundraising for 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.
This year's theme was “Connect.” Tables surrounded the space, each providing an opportunity for girls to participate in a variety of engaging activities connecting with themselves, their family, their community and their world. Traveling from table to table, girls learned about making SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallist Affectionately Pinned Somewhere), created journals to share stories, thoughts and ideas, learned to make friendship bracelets, juried photographs of their community, and learned more about the five World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts World Centers that offer temporary accommodations for women and girls participating in seminars, training, and international events.
The girls creatively raised $91.87 in donations for the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund, established in 1927 and that supports girls who travel internationally and attend global events.
