Elbridge E. Greeley, obituary
BELFAST — Elbridge Edwin Greeley, 94, of Belfast, passed away on Feb. 14, 2016 in Belfast.
Elbridge was born on Oct. 20, 1921, in Morrill, the first child of Edwin Holmes and Katherine (Gurney) Greeley. He attended grade school in Morrill and graduated from Crosby High School in Belfast. He attended the University of Maine (Orono) and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Married in Belfast on Sept. 10, 1945, Elbridge is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Webb) Greeley; two sons, Edwin and his wife, Susan, of Morrill, and Douglas and his wife, Carol, of Marietta, S.C.; and two sisters, Barbara Greeley and Marion Whitcomb, both of Belfast. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Elbridge was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving 36 months of active duty as a tech sergeant, and in the 82nd Airborne in the European Theater of Occupation.
Elbridge worked for the Maine State Highway Commission, serving from 1946 to 1971, retiring in 1971 as Division (5) Maintenance Supervisor.
Elbridge and Jeanette made their home in Morrill from 1946 to the 1970s. Elbridge was a member of the VFW, as well as the Morrill Baptist Church from the early 1960s until they moved to Deer Isle.
Following retirement in 1973, Elbridge and Jeanette made their home on Deer Isle until 1986. They then made their home in Sargentville, where Jeanette was born and grew up.

A graveside committal service will be held at a later date, with interment to be at Village Cemetery in Morrill.
