Eugene Hurtubise Jr., obituary
VINALHAVEN — Eugene Albert Hurtubise Jr., 72, of Vinalhaven, loving husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully at home on Feb. 4, 2016, surrounded by his family and his dogs.
Eugene was a 1962 graduate of Deering High School. He spent the next four years serving his country in the Air Force. He used his photography skills developing reconnaissance photos during his tour. In recent years he was able to return to Hawaii with his wife to revisit the area where he served.
Gene worked most of his life as a master electrician, however, his talents were not limited to electrical work. He was a licensed private pilot with a helicopter rating. He constructed a helicopter from a kit, which he then flew. Gene's passion for cars led to many one-of-a-kind vehicles, especially Volkswagens. Motorcycle sidecars were also on his to-do list — he built five. One parade creation was prize-winning as it contained a pet turkey in the sidecar.
Eugene purchased his dream of a camp on Cedar Lake in Millinocket, where he loved spending time with friends and family.
He was especially proud of his grandchildren, Everett and Tracie Webster, Sarah and Grace Webster, and Jordan and Erin Nagy. He was always at his best in their company.
Eugene was predeceased by his parents, Eugene Sr. and Imelda Leroux Hurtubise; and his sister. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary; his children, Erika Nagy and her husband, Rich, and their two children of Norfolk, Va., Carla Blanchard and her husband, Mike, and their two children of Amesbury, Mass., Carl Webster and his wife, Julie, and their two children of Westbrook, and Raymond Webster and his wife, Danielle, and their two children of Vinalhaven; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Gene's wishes, there will be no funeral at this time. A celebration of his life will be at a later date.
Donations in his memory may be made to one of his favorite experiences of 2013: Honor Flight Maine, 1001 Westbrook Street, Portland, ME 04102.
Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home.
