Slippery road conditions cause Rockport crash

ROCKPORT— Slippery road conditions caused a single vehicle crash Feb. 9, around 9 a.m., on Park Street near Austin Lane in Rockport.
According to Rockport Police Chief Mark Kelley, Randy Lewis, Jr., of Augusta, was driving a 2004 Ford Escort on Park Street traveling toward Meadow Street when his vehicle slid on the road and rolled over on its side into a ditch with a running brook.
The crash occurred near the driveway of Rockport firefighter Mike Robertson who first responded to the scene. The driver, who was not injured, was able to remove himself from his vehicle, said Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley.
Steve Laite of Camden Exxon removed the vehicle, which did not sustain any damage, from the ditch.
Kelley has attributed the crash to slippery road conditions and driver inattention. “Lewis was very lucky to have escaped the crash without any injuries. The recent snowfall and the slower pace of travel with the slippery conditions caused him to land very softly in the ditch. He didn’t even break his side mirror,” said Kelley.
Rockport Fire Department responded to the accident as well as Rockport police .
