Edward Watts, obituary
UNION — Edward "Eddie" Delano Watts, 75, passed away peacefully July 29, 2015, at his home with his loving wife, Joanne, and his sister, Lorraine, by his side. He was born to Francis E. Watts and Genevieve E. (Jameson) Watts on Feb. 19, 1940, in Union.
Eddie grew up in Union and at a very young age worked in the woods to help support the family. He attended Waldoboro High School. After high school, he joined the Navy. In 1962 he met and married the love of his life, Joanne, and later they started a family.
Over his lifetime, Eddie worked as a quarry worker in the Union Lime Quarry and at Hockings Granite Quarry on Clark Island. He later moved to Vermont and worked at Barre Granite for many years, returning to Maine to work at Bath Iron Works, and for the City of Bath as the supervisor of the Parks and Cemeteries Division, from which he retired.
Eddie loved gardening in preparation for winter. He even had his own little apiary for 20 years, giving extra honey and harvest to family and friends, grinding the vegetables for mincemeat, beet relish and green tomato relish. He was openhearted, honest, decent and kind, with an infectious smile who loved his family deeply. He offered to help all those he could. He loved his grandsons with everything he had. They loved helping "Grampaw" bring in wood for the winter and the harvest. They were always looking to learn from him. He would tell them which tree the wood came from, as they were stacking the wood and taught them to use tools safely. He enjoyed watching the boys play their sports. Eddie was happy to hear from Jeanna every day, knowing they were safe and okay. His eyes would light up whenever Jeanna and her boys would come to visit.
He enjoyed the newspaper to keep up with current events, always reading aloud. He never was afraid to discuss politics and his beliefs. He always found new recipes for Joanne to try, boasting she is a "great cook." He looked forward to the Union Fair and enjoyed listening to classic country music.
Eddie loved his little white dog, Cuddles, and she loved him too. She would greet him with a wagging tail and little affectionate noises.
He enjoyed visiting relatives in Prince Edward Island, where his beloved grandfather, who he loved dearly, was born, and explaining how he had taught him so much.
Eddie was predeceased by his son, Todd Edward Wattsl and his father, Francis E. Watts.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne (Pottle) Watts of Union; his daughter, Jeanna Marie; and two grandsons, Dylan and Nathan, all of Bath; Genevieve Butler of Brewer; his sisters, Lorraine of Waldoboro and Johanne; and his brothers Vinal, Frank, Ben and Weston.
A private celebration of Eddie's life will be held at a later date.
