Stephen A. Morang, obituary
BELFAST — Stephen A. Morang, 71 of Belfast, previously of Belmont, passed away at home on June 9, 2025 after a battle with cardiac disease. He was born on August 26, 1953 in Augusta, Maine, the son of Virginia (Richardson) and Roland Morang Sr.
Stephen graduated from Belfast Area High School. After graduating, he worked as a guard at the Maine State Prison and in Texas. Eventually retiring from the US Postal Service after many years of work in both Maine and Florida. He and his brother, Roland, were active with the Frankfort area Little League, a time which he enjoyed very much.
In 2021, Stephen walked the Appalachian Trail with the exception of 500 miles, which he skipped to make it back to Maine before winter. He was walking steadily in preparation to finish those last 500 miles.
Stephen is survived by his, sister Judith Ford of Newburgh; brother, Roland Morang Jr. and wife Jean of New Portland; two nephews, John Ford Jr. and fiance Renita Ward Downer of Newburgh and James Morang of Arizona; two nieces, Kasey Byam-Mooney of Rockland and Lindsey Faulkingham of Oregon and their aunt Kathleen Garrold of Searsport; longtime friend Janake Nancy Howard of Belfast; great nephew, Lucas Ford; two great nieces, Elizabeth Ford and Anna Ford, and many other special family and friends too numerous to name.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Grove Cemetery.
