Nobel Peace Prize, Camden Conference speaker to appear on Maine Calling
Nobel Peace Prize recipient Maria Ressa will be featured on Maine Public's interactive radio program Maine Calling on Tuesday, February 11, from 11 a.m. to noon. Ressa is the keynote speaker for the upcoming Camden Conference, scheduled for February 21-23.
Maine Calling, hosted by Jennifer Rooks, Cindy Han, and Keith Shortall, broadcasts live weekdays from 11 a.m. to noon, with rebroadcasts at 8 p.m. Listeners can stream the program live or access archived episodes at mainecalling.org.
As co-founder and CEO of Rappler, the Philippines' leading digital news site, Ressa has become a global symbol of press freedom, according to Camden Conference, in a news release. Her work has drawn international recognition, culminating in the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to protect freedom of expression. The 2020 Sundance documentary A Thousand Cuts chronicles Rappler's fight for democracy and truth in journalism.
Currently serving as Professor of Practice at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs Institute of Global Politics, Ressa leads groundbreaking projects examining artificial intelligence's impact on democracy. Her bestselling book, How to Stand Up to a Dictator, published in 2022, has been translated into more than 20 languages. She also serves as Vice-Chair of the United Nations Internet Governance Forum Leadership Panel.
