Water pipe break on Rockland’s South Main St. forces closures, detours
ROCKLAND – The portion of Main Street in Rockland between Myrtle and Pleasant streets is temporarily closed as crews work to repair a break in a water main. Currently, motorists are following detours into the side neighborhood, and drivers later in the day may find lane closures at other locations as workers spend the afternoon, if not into the night, rectifying the problem.
As of 2 p.m., members of Maine Water Company had not yet found the break that caused a large pool of water to surface on the road opposite 250 Main Street.
Runoff from that pool of water, which Rockland Police reported to the Knox County Communications Center (911 dispatch) before 8 a.m., has been flowing down the embankment into Harbor Park ever since.
Temperature predictions from the previous night dipped into the negative teens in the Midcoast area before returning to single digits through today.
