Washington, D.C., parade was to honor U.S. Army, not the President's birthday
The PenBay Pilot reporting on the June 14 parade in Washington, D.C., is among the most dishonest and biased depiction of the reasons for the event that I've seen anywhere.
On June 10 you wrote, The rally and demonstration will join with the nationwide No Kings events to be held in communities across America as a counterpoint to the planned military parade scheduled that day to honor President Donald Trump’s birthday."
On June 14 your reporter Sarah Thompson wrote, "Rockland's rally was scheduled weeks ago and is one of thousands held throughout the country as President Donald Trump held a military parade in Washington, D.C., for his birthday, and Marines and National Guard work the streets of Los Angeles."In neither story were any other possible reasons for the parade mentioned. Here's what you left out: The military parade wasn't held because it was Donald Trump's birthday. It was held on June 14 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the US Army in 1775 by the Second Continental Congress. June 14 is also Flag Day, a holiday that commemorates the adoption of the American flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. That both events coincide with Donald Trump's birthday is a coincidence, one you're apparently ignoring to paint him and the event in the worst possible light.
Even NPR and PBS were honest enough to admit that the parade was to honor the U.S. Army and not the president's birthday. If you have to lie to make your point, you don't have one. Perhaps some of your gullible readers will believe what you're reporting, but some of us are able to do our own research and recognize biased reporting when we see it.
