Waldoboro Police beat: Hit and run accident, juvenile assault, stolen headstone
WALDOBORO - Waldoboro police responded to 285 calls for service from Oct. 6-13. Listed below are a few of the highlights. An arrest or summons does not apply guilt. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Oct. 6
Kenneth Neild, 23, of Waldoboro, was arrested by Officer Larry Hesseltine for burglary, theft, and unlawful possession of schedule E drugs.
Juvenile, was issued a summons by Officer Chris Spear for assault.
Heseltine is investigating a $15 gasoline theft that occurred at the Big Apple.
Oct. 7
Peter Graffam, Jr., 20, of Warren, was issued a summons by Spear for unnecessary noise with brakes and or acceleration, and defective vehicle.
Hesseltine is investigating a report from a resident that her grandmother’s headstone was stolen.
Officer Thomas Bartunek investigated an accident at the Main Street/Bremen Road/Kaler’s Corner intersection at 7:27 p.m. Joshua Smith, 30, of Warren, was driving a 2000 Chevrolet sedan. Breanna Nichols, 20, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2000 Dodge sedan. Nichols’ vehicle was travelling east on Main St. Smith’s vehicle was stopped at a stop sign at Kaler’s Corner. Smith’s vehicle proceeded through the intersection and failed to see the other vehicle. Smith struck Nichols’ vehicle in the passenger side rear door. No injuries were reported.
Oct. 8
Meghan Stambaugh, 38, of Lincolnville, was issued a summons by Spear for inspection violation and failure to maintain control of vehicle.
Sgt. Jamie Wilson is investigating a hit and run accident on Atlantic Highway at 5:46 p.m. An unknown operator was driving a maroon Ford pickup truck. Roberta Delano, 70, of Friendship, was driving a 2006 Ford sedan. Delano was travelling northbound on the Atlantic Highway and the unknown vehicle was behind her. Delano activated left turn signal and slowed to a stop near the Delano’s Seafood driveway. The unknown vehicle did not see Delano stop and swerved to the right causing the vehicle to start to spin out. This vehicle struck Delano’s vehicle in the rear passenger quarter panel. The unknown vehicle regained control and accelerated and continued northbound on the Atlantic Highway. Injuries were reported.
Bartunek investigated an accident on Bremen Road at 7:56 p.m. Martin Forrest, 57, of Bremen was driving a 2002 Toyota pickup truck. Forrest’s vehicle was travelling south on the Bremen Road, lost control on a corner, went off the roadway and into a ditch and struck a banking causing damage to rear of vehicle. No injuries were reported.
Oct. 9
Officer Jeffery Fuller is investigating a report from a resident of the theft of money.
Officer John Lash is investigating a report from a resident of the theft of four tires and rims.
Lash is investigating the theft of an Apple iPhone valued at $400.
Laurens Adams, 63, of Waldoboro, was arrested by Lash for operating under the influence and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Oct. 11
Fuller is investigating a report from a resident that someone shot her bedroom window with a BB gun.
Fuller is investigating a report from a resident of the theft of his cell phone.
Oct. 12
Fuller investigated an accident on the Atlantic Highway at 9:02 a.m. Larry Smith, 45, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2012 Toyota sedan. Susan Wincklhofer, 60, of Rockport, was driving a 2006 Toyota sedan. Smith was distracted by watching the vehicle in front of him in the roadway and did not see Wincklhofer’s vehicle directly in front of him and struck her in the rear. Injuries were reported for Wincklhofer’s passenger.
