Sandra Trembley, obituary
SOUTH THOMASTON — Sandra “Sandi” Trembley, 69, died Sept. 10, 2015, at her home, surrounded by her family, following a period of declining health.
Born in Biloxi, Miss., on April 5, 1946, she was the daughter of retired U.S. Air Force Col. Robert E. Gautney and Barbara (Philleo) Gautney. Her father's career with the U.S. Air Force found Sandi's family living in various places throughout the United States. She ultimately graduated from Newport Beach (California) High School, Class of 1964. Following high school she attended Monterey Peninsula College, where she studied German and Russian language arts. From 1970 to 2006, she lived in the Monterey area.
On June 2, 1977, she married Edward L. Trembley in Monterey.
For more than 25 years, Sandi worked in hotels and restaurants in California, most notably The Butcher Shop in Carmel, and The Sardine Factory and Rappas, both in Monterey.
Later, Sandi worked in retail at The Woodenickel in Pacific Grove, Calif., where she established lifetime relationships with the wonderful group of women with whom she worked. After moving to Maine, Sandi enjoyed working at the Rockland Home Depot, where she also made many friends.
While living in Monterey, Sandi enjoyed the outdoors. Her favorite camping spots were Limekiln Campground in Big Sur and The Pinnacles in Soledad.
Since 1994 she has been an actively involved member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and recently celebrated her 21st AA Birthday.
Sandi lived in Germany in the late 1960s when her father was base commander in Hof. Sandi loved to travel and made several trips back to Europe. Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean were also favorite destinations.
At home, she enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her granddaughter, Gina, who was the light of her life.
Sandi was predeceased by her mother in 1996; her father in 2005; and her sister, Nancy Chelgren, in June of this year.
She is survived by Ed, her beloved husband of 38 years; her son, Aaron L. Trembley and his wife, Coretta L., and their daughter, Gina M., all of South Thomaston,; three brothers, Jeffrey Houck, and Jon and Robert N. Gautney, all of San Bernadino, Calif.; one sister, Patricia Billodeau and her husband, Brett, of Clovis, Calif.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Also her brothers-in-law, James Trembley of San Jose, Calif., and Charles Trembley of Hollister, Calif.; and her sisters-in-law, Joan Rivas-Cosby of San Jose, Calif., and Yovonne Cooper and her husband, Gary, of Fayetteville, N.C.; her mother-in-law, Marie R Trembley of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and her stepmother, Ann Gautney of San Antonio, Texas.
A celebration of Sandi's life will be held Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Weaskeag Inn, 14 Elm St. in South Thomaston.
