Philip C. Morris, obituary
TENANTS HARBOR — Philip C. Morris, 82, died peacefully, Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Sussman Hospice House in Rockport.
Born in Thomaston, June 10, 1942, he was the son of Charles and Edith ‘Katherine’ Crocket Morris. Educated in St. George, he was a member of the last graduating class from St. George High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Coast Guard. Stationed in Hatti during the Vietnam Era, he returned to Maine and was stationed in Rockland for a brief time.
Phil’s love of the ocean began at a young age, helping his father haul traps when he was just 10 years old. After being discharged from the military, he continued his work on the water, working as a commercial fisherman his entire career. Over the years he has worked as a ground fisherman for O’Hara’s off the Georges Banks, fished for halibut, urchins, pogies, dragged for shrimp, and captain his owned lobster boats, with the final one named after his mother the ‘Katherine Rachel’.
An avid outdoorsman, Phil enjoyed the annual Northern Maine Moose Hunt, bagging several moose over the years. He was also a talented craftsman, making beautiful coffee tables and end tables out of lobster traps. His family said he could never sit still and always had some kind of project going.
He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
