Monday morning crash, fender bender tie up Rockport firefighters
ROCKPORT — On the busy Route 90, on a Monday morning and the first day back after school vacation, a string of vehicles rear-ended each other following a case of driver inattention. One driver was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center, the others were uninjured.
The first crash took place just to the west of the Meadow St.-Route 90 traffic light at 7:15 a.m.
According to Rockport police, the driver of a 2012 Lexus — Holly Kaloustian, 42, of Rockport — was eastbound at the light. As the light turned green, she just started to accelerate. As she did, a 2002 Dodge sedan, operated by Rachel Jones, 19, of Bristol, hit the Lexus from behind.
Jones, according to Rockport police, believed the Lexus had started to move in front of her, when it hadn’t.
Jones hit the brakes, and the front end of the sedan dove under the Lexus. Jones was uninjured, however, Kaloustian was transported to the hospital by North East Mobile Health Services.
As 11 Rockport firefighters tended to the crash scene, managing traffic and cleaning debris from the road, cars and trucks were backed up in four directions. Further west, approximately one-eighth of a mile on Route 90, vehicles were stopped.
As they started to accelerate and make their way through the traffic back-up caused by the first crash, three vehicles ended up in a fender bender. There were no injuries from that incident and no significant vehicle damage. Rockport firefighters and Knox County Sheriff Office’s Deputy Justin Hills tended to that scene while Rockport Police Chief Mark Kelley cleared the first crash, and everyone was sent back on their way to work and school.
